About The Event

BOBO Winter Camping Experience

Hosted by Band of Brothers Outdoors (BOBO)

Experience the quiet, rugged beauty of the winter wilderness with our BOBO Winter Camping Adventure, led by longtime outdoorsman and BOBO Pro Staff member Trevor Banks. Trevor has spent his entire life in Northern Minnesota and began winter camping at the age of 13. With more than 41 years of experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge, skill, and passion to this unique outdoor opportunity.

About the Experience

Winter camping with BOBO is unlike any other adventure. You will escape the crowds, disconnect from the noise, and fully immerse yourself in the peace and challenge of the winter backcountry. Whether you are completely new to winter camping or looking to expand your skills, this event is designed to guide, support, and empower you every step of the way.

What You’ll Learn

Many veterans ask, “Can I really do this?”Yes—you absolutely can. BOBO will teach you the fundamentals needed for a safe, comfortable, and rewarding winter camping experience, including:

  • Efficient packing techniques

  • Properly loading and securing a toboggan

  • Clothing selection and effective layering

  • Choosing foods and staying hydrated in cold temperatures

  • Body preparation for winter travel

  • Using snowshoes and navigating deep snow

  • Tent and camp setup

  • Harvesting, cutting, and splitting firewood

  • Tips and tricks for staying warm overnight

These core skills will build your confidence and help you thrive in winter conditions.

Equipment Provided

All selected participants will be provided with essential winter camping gear, including:

  • Zero-degree sleeping bag

  • Two large toboggan duffle bags

  • 9’ HDPE toboggan with lashing system

  • Inflatable insulated sleeping pad

  • Aluminum snowshoes

  • Ground pad

BOBO ensures you have the equipment you need to stay warm, safe, and comfortable throughout the trip.

Commitment & Application Process

This trip requires detailed planning and preparation, especially regarding food, gear, and travel logistics. If you are selected:

  • You must be committed 100% to the process

  • You must complete the application accurately and in full

  • You must be able to communicate reliably via email, phone, or text

Timely communication is essential for coordinating volunteers, monitoring weather conditions, and ensuring a successful experience. All applicants will be contacted for a brief interview.

Trip Details

  • Veterans Selected: 4

  • Winter Tents: Minimum of four heated tents

  • Support Crew: Four experienced volunteers, including trip host Trevor Banks

This will be an unforgettable opportunity to challenge yourself, learn valuable skills, and connect with fellow veterans in a peaceful and empowering wilderness setting.
